I’m afraid I’m in the vast minority when it comes to IT. I’m generally very liberal when it comes to movies, and I’ve seen the HOSTELs and the SAWs and the HALLOWEENs, but this one rubbed me the wrong way. I left feeling disgusted. And I’m trying to figure out why. I think it’s because I’m very sensitive to movies in which kids are in danger. Seeing a child’s stomach being carved with a knife and seeing a young girl being attacked by her father, stuff like that gets to me. I know terrible things like that happen in real life, but it seems exploitative to me to use it in this genre. Plus I hate clowns with a passion. Like I said, I know I’m practically alone here. I wrote a blog and Facebook post about my feelings which garnered all kinds of hatred toward me personally. While very popular (the blog has hit 20,000 views in less than two days and the Facebook post has reached 295,000 people and 2,000 shares) I don’t understand the hostility leveled at me for expressing an opinion and warning parents before they take their children to the “scary clown movie”. I commend podcasts and websites like yours in which you share your opinions and still respect each other when you vehemently disagree. The hatred out there in “internet land” is almost as disturbing as anything I reacted to in the film. Anyway, keep up the good work – if you’re interested in taking a look, this is the blog I referenced:
