  1. I realize my opinion is not politically correct, but I’m concerned by the constant complaints of “white washing” when it comes to the arts. It concerns me that a filmmaker should find himself or herself compromising whatever vision he or she may have because a certain gender or nationality is underrepresented. I thought the whole idea of acting was to become someone you aren’t. And where do we draw the line? Linda Hunt won an Oscar for playing a different gender in THE YEAR OF LIVING DANGEROUSLY. Should we take away her award? Should Bridget Jones have been played only be an actual English actress? Should British Vivian Leigh been kicked off the Southern set of GONE WITH THE WIND? I hope this doesn’t come across as racist, because that’s the furthest thing from what I am. But I am concerned that we will lose the magic of acting if we ask thespians to only play themselves. Sorry, but that would be a boring world for me.
